BOBCAT
FELIS RUFUS

Color               :      Gray to tawny

Size                 :      Length - 1 to 1 1/2 feet
                          Weight - 20 to 40 pounds

Breeding        :     Reach maturity at 1 year
                         Gestation period is 65 to 75 days
                         Average number of cubs per litter: 3 (can range from 1 to 6)

Territory        :     Throughout the United States and Canada, also found in Mexico

Natural diet   :     Rabbits other small mammals, rodents, and birds

Vocalizations:     purrs, whines, and screams

Lifespan         :     10 to 20 years in captivity


Interesting Facts:

  1. The bobcat is the most common in the United States. It is present in 48 of the 50 states.

  2. Bobcats get their name from their bob tail.

  3. The further north a bobcat lives, the larger it will be.

  4. Male bobcats will hunt and bring food for their mates and cubs.

  5. Mating season is November to January.
